Overview

The Challenge:
The blockchain space, though speculative, is filled with innovation and knowledge, yet access to reliable education is limited. Deschool addresses this by offering certified blockchain education, empowering users to own their learning records and connect with opportunities, fostering a decentralized, healthy ecosystem for future talents.

The Solution:
DeSchool provides a Blockchain-native learning solution by enabling decentralized course creation, automatic onboarding, and incentive-based engagement. It empowers creators to publish courses with smart contract revenue sharing, streamlines blockchain knowledge onboarding with NFT course credentials, and helps projects attract participants through interactive content and rewards, all while advancing data sovereignty and interoperability in education.

Accomplishment:
Received $15 million valuation seed round funding in 2022 by Y2Z Venture, SeeDAO, Unipass , and Plancker.

Process

Research and Design Timeline
I employed a combination of user interviews, surveys, and contextual inquiries within a diverse Web3 community to perform need-finding and identify pain points. This revealed a critical gap: the need for a foundational and accurate educational platform.

Information Architecture and Wireframes
With these insights, I led the design process, from user flow, information architecture, and wireframes to the final user interface. I also actively conducted usability testing, ensuring key needs were met before launch and continuously refining features based on user feedback after launch.

Outcome

Intuitive Learning Experience:
DeSchool provides an intuitive learning experience with a clear course structure and well-defined requirements, allowing users to easily navigate chapters, engage with content, complete assessments, and seamlessly earn certifications.

Proof of Knowledge
Deschool utilizes POAPs (verifiable NFTs) as proof of knowledge acquired. I developed a system where users can view and collect their POAPs, serving as a verifiable record of their expertise and accomplishments in education.

Bounty System for Learning and Earning
I designed a bounty system that allows project teams to upload tasks that need to be outsourced or potential recruitment tasks. Qualified Deschool users, based on their interests and credentials (POAPs), can complete these bounties to earn rewards and connect with project teams. This feature completes the "study to earn" cycle, linking learning directly to real-world opportunities.

Establishing Rules and Guidelines
To ensure consistency across the experience and within internal teams, I also designed the rules and provided guidelines.

Reflection

Key Learnings and Insights
Through Deschool, I developed expertise in translating user research into actionable design strategies, ensuring every stage of the process was informed by real-world data. I also refined my approach to iterative testing, continuously enhancing the user experience. I strengthened my ability to collaborate across teams, take ownership of responsibilities, and consistently deliver results on time and within budget.

Cross-Functional Team Collaboration
Cross-functional collaboration was vital to the success of this project. I worked closely with developers and other team members to ensure a seamless workflow. I thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with developers and the project manager to meet milestones on time and deliver a cohesive product.

Low-Ego Approach as a Designer
I embraced feedback and critique with an open mind. Understanding others’ perspectives and being receptive to suggestions were essential to refining the design. My focus remained on designing for the users and clients, ensuring their needs were always prioritized over personal preferences.
